Digital ordering systems in the hospitality industry – All solutions for QR code ordering and more
The classic: Table ordering
Digital ordering systems in classic full-service restaurants are often called self-ordering or table ordering. Instead of replacing waiters, the reality is a combination of digital ordering and service staff. Waiters point out the digital ordering option when greeting guests: "If I'm not around, you can also order here."
Guests simply scan the QR code at the table to access a digital menu where they can order and pay directly. The order is automatically recorded in the POS system and the server brings it to the table.
Self-payment
Self-payment is a growing trend. It allows guests to pay for their entire order via smartphone. Unlike the previous self-ordering concept, guests don't have to pay for each individual order during checkout but can pay for the entire table at the end. The payment is automatically recorded as paid in the POS system.
Self-service
Gastronomy concepts with counter pickup require a different solution. In this case, guests can also scan the QR code, order, and pay. They receive a pickup notification via SMS or push notification on their smartphone as soon as the order is ready.
Self-order terminals
Self-order terminals are another alternative for self-service restaurants. Guests order on the touchscreen and pay directly by card or in cash at the counter. A pickup receipt is printed at the self-order kiosk. Once the order is ready, the pickup number is either displayed on a screen or called out.
Tablet ordering systems
Instead of ordering with their own smartphones, you can let guests order using a provided tablet. The benefit is that every guest can order, regardless of whether they have a smartphone or speak the language (via language switchers or images). The simple operation makes tablets easy for older guests to use as well.
The waiter usually hands the tablet to the table when greeting guests, much like a physical menu. Guests can then order via the tablet throughout the evening. Waiters only need to bring the order to the table. Unskilled staff can also perform this task. After payment, the tablet is collected or returned. Alternatively, the tablet can be permanently installed at the table.
All-you-can-eat concepts
A common tablet ordering concept is "all-you-can-eat." Typically, guests can order as much as they like. The only restriction is managed through "rounds" (for example, an ordering round consists of a 5-minute window or a specific number of items per round). Both functions can be managed with the SO'USE all-you-can-eat feature.
Pre-ordering and delivery or pickup
With the webshop, guests can order and pay from elsewhere and either have the order delivered or pick it up at the restaurant themselves.
Table Call (Silent ordering)
Table Call is a partner product from SO'USE and the pager system market leader "Discover Systems". It combines pagers and QR codes. Guests can order and re-order via the QR code. Once the pager buzzes, the order is ready for pickup.
Ordercube
You can also order and pay via the Ordercube using an NFC chip. Simply hold the smartphone near the Ordercube and the digital menu opens.
